Curtis Calabrese, PhD is a Navy combat veteran and public safety advocate who is ready to lead Palm Beach County into the future.

Meet Curtis Calabrese

Born and raised in Boca Raton, Curtis earned a nomination to the U.S. Naval Academy from Congressman Ron Klein and graduated with a degree in Systems Engineering. From the moment he earned his wings, Curtis embraced every challenge; from locating the wreckage of EgyptAir Flight 804 to fighting terrorists off the Horn of Africa. He later served as a Navy Legal Officer, Department Head, and Aerospace Engineer where he led multidisciplinary teams, oversaw flight safety programs, and advised senior leadership on ethics, law, and operational risk.

After active duty, Curtis joined the Federal Aviation Administration as an Aviation Safety Inspector, where he investigated more than one hundred accident and incident investigations. When the 2019 government shutdown threatened the safety of the flying public, Curtis stepped forward as a union spokesperson for the Professional Aviation Safety Specialists, risking his own career to ensure that safety inspectors remained on the job. His courage and integrity under fire earned him respect throughout the aviation community and underscored his belief that leadership means standing up for what matters, regardless of personal cost.

Curtis’s drive for excellence led him back to the classroom. He earned a Master’s Degree in Aeronautics with Distinction and a PhD in Psychology focusing on how justice interacts with safety and security regulations. Today, he puts that academic rigor and operational discipline to work as a Boeing 737 Captain for United Airlines and as Director of Operations at Altivion Aviation, overseeing global flight operations and regulatory compliance with the same focus on safety and teamwork that defined his career in uniform.

As a candidate for County Commission, Curtis brings a proven record of leading complex organizations through crisis and change. He understands that effective leadership requires both vision and follow-through: charting a clear course, empowering every team member, and holding everyone, including himself, to the highest standards. He will apply that same leadership ethos to county government, ensuring that our community remains safe, fiscally responsible, and united in pursuing the opportunities ahead.

Curtis lives in Boca Raton with his husband, Vance, and their two huskies. He is proud to call Palm Beach County home, and he’s ready to put his decades of service, his reputation for integrity, and his unwavering commitment to teamwork to work for every resident of District 4.
