A Boca Raton civic group is taking to the sidewalks outside Boca Town Center Mall this weekend to protest what organizers describe as growing threats to democratic institutions and to demand the full public release of records tied to the Jeffrey Epstein investigation.

Indivisible Boca Raton will participate in Hands Across America 2.0 on Monday, from 10 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., along Glades Road in Boca Raton, marking the 40th anniversary of the original 1986 event that drew an estimated 6 million Americans into a human chain stretching coast to coast.

“Hands Across America 2.0 is about bringing communities together to stand united to save our democracy, support our immigrant neighbors, and show that the will of the people still matters,” said Myra Kremenitzer, leader of Indivisible Boca Raton. “This anniversary event reminds us that when people come together for a common purpose, they can inspire extraordinary change.”

Organizers say the purpose of the March and protest is to raise awareness about what they describe as growing threats to democratic institutions and civil liberties. The March participants will carry signs highlighting historical warning signs associated with authoritarian movements and the protest will call for the protection of voting rights, the rule of law, and constitutional freedoms.

Demonstrators carried signs reading "ICE: Innocent Citizen Executioners" and chanted "Say her name! Renee Nicole Good!" The crowd included longtime South Florida activists, first-time protesters, and families. Alyssa Cordisco, 43, brought her 8-year-old daughter and their dog. "I don't know how we could possibly not come," she told the Sun Sentinel. "It is so out of control right now and appalling."

“What is going on with ICE in this country is just devastating communities, tearing families apart and separating families. They’re being terrorized and devastated,” Indivisible Boca founder and Boca Raton resident Myra Kremenitzer said.
