WLRN: Indivisible Boca Raton Joins National Hands Across America 2.0 Demonstration

WLRN Public Media reporter Mohamed Alkawaja covered Indivisible Boca Raton's participation in Hands Across America 2.0, held Memorial Day, Monday, May 25, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. along Glades Road in Boca Raton. The demonstration marked the 40th anniversary of the original 1986 event, which drew an estimated 6 million Americans into a human chain stretching coast to coast and raised approximately $34 million for hunger and homelessness relief.

The 2026 action was part of a nationwide effort organized by Indivisible chapters and allied groups across the country, united around democracy and immigrant rights.

"Hands Across America 2.0 is about bringing communities together to stand united to save our democracy, support our immigrant neighbors, and show that the will of the people still matters," said Myra Kremenitzer, founder of Indivisible Boca Raton. "This anniversary event reminds us that when people come together for a common purpose, they can inspire extraordinary change."

WLRN noted IBR's sustained record of protest action in South Florida, including the July 2025 rally at GEO Group headquarters demanding an end to ICE contracts with private prison companies, and the January 2026 Ice Out For Good protest outside the Glades Road Home Depot following the fatal shootings of U.S. citizens Renee Good and Alex Pretti by ICE agents during Operation Metro Surge in Minneapolis.
