(Video) Racial Profiling in Lake Worth: ICE Terrorizing Our Communities
In Lake worth, Fish and Wildlife agents deputized as de facto ICE agents under the 287(g) agreement, are racially profiling and detaining migrants. No warrants. No cause. Just their appearance, their accents, their origin. The agents detained them for hours. They searched them without consent. When one man asked for his identification back, they put him in handcuffs.
This is unlawful detention. This is what “law enforcement” looks like when the law is weaponized against a specific group of people.
These agents are deputized to enforce immigration law. But immigration enforcement has become something else entirely. It’s not about who committed crimes. It’s about who looks like they might be an immigrant. In South Florida, where so many of our neighbors have roots in Latin America and the Caribbean, “looking like an immigrant” is just code for “looking like a person of color.”
The people detained are not criminals. They were going about their lives. One was a legal resident who was never even asked for his identification. The agents didn’t care. They just kept driving, kept detaining people, for hours.
If you live in Florida, this is your reality now. The agencies you thought were there to manage wildlife are being used to round up human beings without due process. They’re operating in the shadows, in vans with no markings, following people through traffic stops and community spaces.
When power operates without accountability, it expands. When detention happens without warrants, it normalizes. When racial profiling becomes standard practice, it becomes invisible to people who don’t experience it.
